Yesterday I had some bloodwork done at the lab. As I was walking out through the parking lot a little old man, who was using a cane and had to be 85 if he was a day, said “Nice tits” to me as I passed him. I gave him a smile and said “Thanks!!” Maybe I made his day!!  You’re seeing something in the  picture below I would’ve NEVER shown a year ago. and no it’s not my tits!! Look!! Today I was arrayed in my favorite plumage colors of blues and greens!  I need to do my hair again. The pink fades out fast from my grey hair. I use the Manic Panic stuff and left it on for 3 hours. Gonna try 4-5 hours next time. I REALLY need to get some turquoise as I am LOVING Clare’s new color!!

Everything is thrifted!!

Everything is thrifted!!

As promised I’m going to answer the questions I gave the Leibster Award Folks:

1.Gold or silver?  Plastic-actually I like both–preferably the cheap vintage stuff!!

2.What is your favorite candy?  Wow hard one–I’m not much for sweets but I do like a frozen Reese Cup at times. Dang now I want one…..

3.Best book you’ve read recently. The Call the Midwife series by Jennifer Worth- I loved the show and the books are fabulous!

4.A pet peeve. Stupid, Mean, Cruel, Rude People. I so need my invisible Zapper!!

5.What is your favorite season of the year? Autumn followed by Winter. Yep–I’m one of those sickos that like cold weather. You can always put on more clothing to get warm but there is only so much you can remove to get cool without getting arrested. Or scaring small children and pets.

6.What is your favorite color?  Any shade in the blue/green family.

7.Your life is going to become a script for a movie. Who would you want to play you? Well-if it has to be based on looks than obviously Angela Jolie. Seriously-I’d be played by Miranda Hart (Chummy of Call the Midwife and the star of “Miranda”) I adore her-smart, funny, clumsy and just awesome. Like me!!!  Snerk!!!!!

8.You get to become a villain for a day from a Disney movie. Which villain are you? Ursula from the little Mermaid. She was big, bad and beautiful. Is it sad I had to Google a list of Disney villains?

9.If any character from a novel could be your best friend, who would you want it to be and why? Well-currently it would be Chummy from Call the Midwife. I love her humor, her compassion and her zest for life.

10.What is your favourite thing to eat for dinner? Do you make it yourself or is there a restaurant you prefer to order it?  Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-tarts.  I make them myself.  Seriously–I love any kind of Middle Eastern/Northern African food–I make it myself as there are no restaurants anywhere nearby that serves it. Followed by Indian food.

11.It’s your birthday. What’s for dessert?  Mark Harmon, Keith Urban and Benedict Cumberbatch.  They can bring cheesecake. Clothing optional.

Well I’m off to box up 16 dozen cupcakes I baked earlier. I’m making them for our friend Pastor Sam’s #1 daughter’s high school graduation. Their #2 daughter is coming tomorrow afternoon to learn how to make icing and help me decorate them all.  I know it sounds insane baking 16 dozen cupcakes but I have this down to a science these days. I started at 5:30pm when I got home from work and pulled the last pans out at 9:00pm. It helps that I have 13 twelve cup cupcake tins!!!

Everyone have a fabulous weekend and I’ll be back around on Sunday evening!!

Hiya Blogland!!! Everyone have a fabulous holiday weekend?? It’s back to the grind for me. At least I have a 3 day work week as this Friday is my off Friday. Gonna be busy baking 12 dozen cupcakes for a graduation party!

I didn’t get all the sewing done I wanted but managed to get some alterations done and finish a sheet couture item to be debuted later this week!! I also brought some fabric on sale to make a couple of maxi dresses cause heaven knows I NEED more maxi dresses.

This what I wore to run some errands yesterday.  The tshirt was $7 at Walmart. I DIY’d it a bit by ruching the sides to shorten it. The photo doesn’t show the cool glitter on the design. It’s accessorized by cute MrBill!! I was rubbing his chin and he was falling asleep.

I stopped by the goodwill in town as everything was 50% off for Memorial Day. I founds lots of stuff but either it didn’t fit or I didn’t love it. Never fear–I didn’t come home empty-handed!! I got a nice wine-colored Merona cardigan for Julie for $2–you should see me taking pix on the phone and sending them to her of stuff I find to see if she likes it while in the store!!! LOLOL I find a couple of skirts for me. The one I’m wearing today I saw at Kohl’s this past winter for $58. I spent $1.50 on it!!! How can you go wrong with a black & white snake print silky crinkly maxi skirt?? It had a lining in it that was just bizarre. It was too tight for the skirt and rode up–probably why the skirt wound up donated. Nothing a pair of scissors couldn’t fix!! I just wear my own slip under it!!

I was nominated by sweet Debbie of I Love my Lemonade Life for a Leibster Award

Here are the questions I must answer:

1. What would be your super power if you could pick one?  I’d like to have the power to invisibly zap someone who was acting rude or mean or cruel.  Oh yeah, and when it zaps this deep disembodied voice will intone “DUMB ASS”

2. Fill in the blank. I am a closet  Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan.

3. If you knew the world was ending at the end of 2013, what would you do differently? Show more love to the unloved. And eat a whole New York cheesecake by myself.

4. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?  Nope–I just push it once. Sometimes I forget to push it and stand there all stupid wondering why the elevator’s not moving.

5. What was your favorite toy as a kid? I had a bunch of plastic horses but my absolute favorite was this horse that came with my Jane West Doll. Doll was stupid but oh how I loved that horse!!

6. You’re in a time travel capsule. Where are you going? I would love to go back to the 1890’s and my great-grandmother’ Annie’s childhood. I’ve heard the stories but to have seen it in real life/time would be amazing!!

7. Why did you start a blog? I wanted to be one of the cool kids. No, seriously, mostly to help myself with self-image and stuff. I used to be very shy and retiring and all that.

8. Which Disney princess are you and why?  Merida from “Brave”–because she Scottish and kicks ass.

9. Morning person or night person?  Morning, definitely. And I’m married to someone who is like a  turtle stampeding uphill in peanut butter in the morning.

10. Do you have a daily routine or do you take the day as it comes? I have a routine but I’m pretty flexible–I don’t freak out if stuff happens and upsets my well-ordered life. LOLOL–ok my FANTASY well-ordered life!

11. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?  I’m actually cool with my real age.

Thank you to all who gave their all serving their country to keep us free.

Hello Blogland!! I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend!! I am getting LOADS of sewing done this weekend. Some re-fashioning and some sheet couture has been on my agenda!!

First up–I received a fabulous package from the always groovy Vix.  You’ll be seeing what was in it later this week!

I also found out I won a gift certificate from Café Press in a give-away the always visible Patti of Not Dead Yet had!! I am planning something Diva related!!

And to add to all of the wonderful blessings I received this week (and what perfect timing!!) I was nominated for a Leibster Award by Debbie of I Love My Lemonade LifeI’ll be doing a post on that on Tuesday of this week!!

Saturday is a big day in my town of Sharpsburg, Maryland.  As many of you know from last fall, this is the location of the Civil War battle of Antietam–the bloodiest one day in American history. We have a great reverence for those who have served our country and those who have given their lives in that service. We have a wreath-laying ceremony on our town square and a huge parade followed by a ceremony at the National Cemetery on the hill. A little bit of history-the first Memorial Day Parade was held in Sharpsburg in 1867 and has been held continuously since then. Here are a few pictures from the wreath-laying ceremony (this is a block and a half from my house) Organizations come and lay wreaths on the monuments to honor the fallen. The bagpipers play (Amazing Grace and Scotland the Brave on bagpipes always bring me to tears) patriotic songs are sung, and “Taps” is played at the end.

I met this fabulous lady in the crowd. I just had to take Ms. Rita’s picture and share it with you. She’s of a certain age and is VISIBLE!!! I complimented her on her RAD hair– she said she decided “WHY NOT??” Words to live by!!

Isn't she AWESOME!!!!

Here’s my front porch all decked out for Memorial Day. I made the Uncle Sam wreath.

And now on to the style part of our program!! It got REALLY cold here the end of this week and I decided I was going to go casual on Friday as there was almost no one at work!! Can’t go wrong with lime green, turquoise, animal print and SEQUINS!!

Hello Blogland!!!  Is it a full moon or such because I have been dealing with the crazies this week. And been in computer hell both at home and at work!!

First–again my heartfelt thanks at all of your kind words regarding the Diva and her birthday this week. They really have comforted me so much!!

Wednesday night we had bad storms and lost our internet for a bit. Early Thursday morning I was trying to catch up on emails when my computer at work went nuts. Lost all network connections and essentially was dead in the water. We have to use a CAC (computer access card) to log on the system and it couldn’t access anything. Evidently several of us are on a circuit that went bad.  I usually read blogs etc. at lunch. At 2pm we were still down so I bailed out and went thrifting.

I hoped to catch up and make a post when I got home but MORE storms knocked the internet out again!! UGH!! So I’m going to be playing catch-up today!!

Leaving work a bit early allowed me to stop by the goodwill half-price outlet (it’s on the other side of Frederick so I only get there every few weeks. and I must say it was a VERY productive trip!! I paid $1.49 for each of these tops!  Please excuse the need for ironing!

I’m currently looking for Fall/Winter stuff in the thrifts. Several of these tops (all are knits) are for cooler weather. but for that price–they are a steal!!  I’m sure you’ve noticed I buy/wear a lot of blues and greens!! They are my favorite colors!!

The skirt above was found at Burlington coat Factory. I saw it on the rack and LOVED it–olive-green knit swirly maxi!! I found that it was ripped up at the waist band. Someone probably stepped on it while trying it on. I took it to the manager and asked if he would give me a discount. It was priced at $19.99. He gave me 75% off As-Is. SOLD. I took it home, removed the ripped part and reset the waistband. I now have an olive-green skirt I can wear year-round. I’m telling you it PAYS to be able to sew!!

I found the shoes at the same time. I was looking for a pair of pewter dressier sandals. Didn’t find any but found these metallic snake WhiteMountain wedges on the clearance rack for $9.99!! IN MY SIZE!! AND they are comfortable!!  In my cart they went, too.

Well, since I AM at work I need to get my butt in gear and do something constructive. Everyone have a wonderful weekend and I’ll be back on Sunday!!

The Diva Kae-Kae May 22, 2002-April 14, 2013

The Diva
Kae-Kae
May 22, 2002-April 14, 2013

Hello Blogland!! Everyone having a wonderful week thus far?? My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the tornado yesterday in Moore, Oklahoma. It’s just unimaginable.

This will be a photo-heavy post today without much “chatter”. I’m feeling really blue. Tomorrow would’ve been the Diva’s 11th birthday. You may recall we were planning a Super Fantastic Cyber E-Birthday Extravaganza as befitting the International Style Icon and Supermodel she was.

It was not to be. For those of you who are new to the blog, the Diva (aka Kae-Kae) became ill suddenly Sunday April 7th. She was diagnosed with congestive heart-failure. Her little heart was damaged from the 5+ years as a breeder in a puppy mill. The vet said they couldn’t “fix” her but we could manage it. She seemed to be responding to the medication but began having seizures early on the morning of April 14th. We had to love her enough to do what was best for her and let her go.

She is missed terribly. She was an 8 lb bundle of personality and attitude. Definitely the Alpha-dog in our house. It was ALL ABOUT HER!!!  I still catch myself looking for her.

I can never express how touched we are at the outpouring of love y’all have shown the last few weeks. It has meant the world to me and it’s made it easier knowing how many people her little bossy blonde self touched.

We buried her in the herb garden. I found this winged dog statue and of course I had to Diva-fy it. She loved her bling and outfits and attention.

007

006

I want to share some of my favorite photo’s of her. They really can’t catch the essence of her Diva-ness. She was quite the character and we can never replace her.

My favorite Diva picture. I love the smile on her face!! She knows the the loveliest flower in the garden!

Hello Blogland!!! Everyone having a spectacular weekend?? It’s cold, grey and dreary here. As usual it seems. It was a bit of a boring weekend overall.

I spent part of the weekend replanting my pots and my veggie garden. The freak frost and freeze the beginning of the week really destroyed all of my hard work!! It will be so worth it this summer when I’m picking those juicy tomatoes and inundated with squash and cucumbers.

I stopped by a yard sale on the way to the garden center and picked up a couple of goodies. Pickings are slim if you’re not interested in toys or kiddies clothes.

I brightened my pink hair a bit this weekend. I left it on for 3 hours so it’s a bit brighter. Got lot’s of compliments and comments!!!  When I’m asked why I say WHY NOT???

I pulled out one of go-to maxi skirts for church today. These are always a lifesaver.  I got the color scheme from the iridescent bracelet.

Everyone have a great rest of the weekend. Keep MrBill and I in your thoughts. The Diva’s 11th birthday would’ve been this week. I’ll be sharing on Tuesday the tribute we made for her.

turtle-outfits-crocheted-hats-500x379Hello Blogland!! I am glad today is my Friday because this week has sucked at work–the computer ate my design drawing just as I was finalizing it for review so I’ve had to semi-start over (I had a proposed sketch saved thankfully!!

I’m going to be spending some time in the gardens this weekend. Even though I covered my plants, the freak late season frost/freeze killed about 8 tomato plants, my basil, my eggplants and my squash. BUMMER!! I’ll be replanting them plus I need to get some scented geraniums to pot up  and pineapple sage.

If you garden and can get it I HIGHLY recommend Pineapple Sage–it’s an annual but makes a shrub!! The leaves are a lime green and smell FANTASTIC–They make a wonderful tea. It gets these dark red spikey flowers in September. I plant it among my perennials and shrubs every year.

I’m glad everyone enjoyed those hunky hairy 70’s dudes!!! Those were the days!! today I’m feeling a bit snarky so I’m sharing ads that just make me laugh!

Hello Blogland!!! how is everyone the start of this COLD (at least here in Western Maryland-we’ve had FROST) week??

The pink streak in my hair (soon to be a brighter more Krista/Desiree pink)certainly has evoked some odd responses. Other women seem to love it–even my daughter!! She’d have a pink streak if it didn’t involve having to bleach her hair and such!!

Male response–Lauren liked it (he was SCARED when I announced I was doing it). My male co-workers (who I think I baffle anyway) are a bit perplexed. One ACTUALLY asked me if I had accidentally spilt Koolaid  ON MY HEAD and it stained my hair. AND  he was SERIOUS!!! LOLOLOLOLOL

I came home Friday to a fabulous package from Clare of MissSimmondsSays!!! I shed some bittersweet tears over the fabulous pin she made of the Diva. I was truly touched and thrilled with everything!!

Cute home made dress. This will be getting a bit of refashioning for the boobage.

Not this mama!!  Hello Blogland and Happy Mother’s Day to all who are mom’s, whether human-kids or fur-kids!!

Our darling daughter and the grand-puppy came up Friday nite to spend the weekend while her hubby is away in Georgia at school. MrBill was VERY excited to see Noelle!! He just LOVES her!!

Whilst I was waiting for her to arrive I pulled out this:

Party-Time Pinkl!!!

Party-Time Pinkl!!!

And here’s the results. I left it on for an hour (said on bottle 10-20 minutes) as my hair is natural grey as opposed to bleached out hair.  Grey tends to be a bit resistant to dyes. I like the light pink result. The next time I’m going to leave it on longer for a darker pink. My daughter LOVED it and I got loads of compliments as the Mother-Daughter Breakfast!

Here are some Noelle pictures. I couldn’t get any of her and MrBill together as she is QUITE energetic. Bill loves her but she wore him OUT!!! They just left and he is SOUND asleep! It did show us that when we adopt another dog we need to get one a bit older and calmer! He’s just too old to handle it! I made the zebra dress for her.

Friday was a casual quiet day at work. I got the glittery tshirt at Walmart for $7 and gathered the sides up myself to give it shape.

We had a load of fun at the Mother-Daughter Breakfast. They had a fashion show (pictures later this week) that was so much fun. Several of us “menopausal supermodels” have been recruited to work the runway next year!

I told Julie she had to have her picture taken for the blog, too!!

After the breakfast we got pedicures together and then I took her to the local consignment shop. Julie made out like a bandit. She has to dress conservatively for her job like Lynne of Good Will Hunting.

Julie made out like a bandit!!! she spent all of $27 for the following: (Sorry my pix don’t do them justice!)

Ann Taylor skirt-$4

The Limited sheath dress- $8

Calvin Klein sheath dress-$14

Calvin Klein sheath dress-$14

Although it seemed odd to buy two black sheath dresses, the Calvin Klein has pleats across the bodice and is a bit dressier. Both can be worn with cardigans or jackets. She plans on wearing the Calvin Klein at their first anniversary dinner later this month.

Here’s what we wore to church and out to dinner today. I got a REAL DEAL on the maxi dress. I had a $10 off coupon for Kohl’s. I found the dress on the clearance rack marked down from $68 to $16.99 as-is. It had some deodorant streaks on it. I figured it was mine for $6.99 plus the coupon. when I got to the register they gave me a scratch-off that added an extra 30% off. I got the dress for under $5 with tax!! SCORE!!!!

PINK!!!  PINK!!!  PINK!!!

Hello Blogland!!! Seems like the consensus on the hair streak is PINK!!!  so pink it shall be this time!! Next time maybe I’ll go for turquoise or lime green!!!  The stuff I’m getting washes out in about 6 weeks so I can be a rainbow all summer!!

I have outfits to share in this post. I’ve been having a craptastic Fibromyalgia Flare the last couple of days and have been hanging out with MrBill and my tablet in the recliner. I’m starting to feel a bit better today.

I wanted to share some Groovy Sixties and Seventies era Mother’s Day Cards with everyone!
