Hello Blogland!!! Happy Easter from cold, rainy Maryland!!  I didn’t even put a fancy dress on the Diva but left her in a sweater!

This has been a busy weekend–I hope to catch up with everyone’s blogs later this evening. I’ve got a ham in the oven and baked beans in the crock-pot smelling really good!  We have a friend coming over to dinner with any other strays he might bring along that have nowhere to go.

Friday was a short work day and afterwards the hubster and I headed to The Temple Paul Mitchell School for haircuts. We have a dear friend, Teresa, who is studying there. Below is shaggy me pre-haircut:

Saturday evening we met up with my family for dinner. I took the picture on the front porch. I’m sporting my fab new ‘do!!! Everyone loves it (the hubster’s haircut was awesome but he doesn’t want a picture on the blog-LOLOL) and several people think I highlighted my hair deliberately like this as opposed to just growing the dyed part out!

My Easter outfit caused quite a sensation at church today!! Compliments everywhere–several said it was so different from what I usually wear but FABULOUS!! The hubster said I looked like a luscious watermelon-I’m not sure what THATS supposed to men!!! The dress is FashionBug and came from the mission for $4!!!  I kept the accessories to a minimum as the print is fairly busy. I’m going to definitely draft a pattern from this to make more!!

Here’s a close-up of the new shoes!! They are by Chaps and from Kohl’s. They were marked down 60% to $28. I had a gift card for a bit over $15 on it.  I’ve needed a dressier black shoe and they were cute and comfy  so I decided to get them. When I got to the register they gave me a scratch off ticket that came up an additional 30% off!! I was able to get these for under $20!!  Note I’m wearing fishnet tight, too!

I want to share some more lovely 1940’s vintage Easter Cards. The soft watercolor effects and the images are so sweet.

I’ll be linking up with the glorious ladies’ for Visible Monday!!! I’m off to try to catch up with everyone before dinner!!

I’ll be back Tuesday with a few more weird Easter cards!! Everyone have a lovely evening!!

Hello Blogland!! How’s everyone doing?? We are anticipating a HEATWAVE here in Western Maryland this weekend. It’s projected to get up to a balmy 55 degrees–only maybe 10-15 lower than NORMAL!!! Woo-hoo break out the sandals!!

The always fabulous Vix at Vintage Vixen is challenging those of us still stuck in WINTER to put on something summery and floaty and impractical and take a pix!! Here I am in my Vintage Floral Caftan of Awesomesness. Please ignore the goosebumps and slight blue tinge to my skin!! The Diva was shivering and grumbling so once the photo’s were done off went her frock and back on with a sweater!

70's vintage Saks Fifth Avenue Caftan on me."Princess" frock on the Diva.

“Princess” frock on the Diva.

Today’s Easter cards are from the 60’s and 70’s!!  Notice how the images are getting more “Op-art” and colorful–they’re cute but not as “twee” as in earlier eras.

More bunnies--the same artist illustrated two of them!

I love the ballerina in the middle!!

All of the scribbly stylistic details is so cool on these.

Yesterday I decided that I was going to wear a frock without boots-dang the cold!!  I just adore this fabulous vintage frock that the always fabulous Curtise sent me!! It’s just so comfortable and swishy–and it definitely has a retro vibe. It almost looks 40’s era with the flats and cardigan! I think I need to draft a pattern from it so I can make MORE!! BTW–I am wearing nude tights–it’s still COLD!!

Dress-Vintage/Curtise, Cardigan-CJBanks/Thrifted, Shoes-Retail

I added a Vintage brooch, DIY bangle and DIY Earrings:

And now for the Leopard portion of our program!!! I thrifted this skirt for $2 last week. I just love the colors and LEOPARD!! I was planning on wearing it with an orange top and teal cardigan. When I was matching the skirt to a teal cardigan (I have 3 in different shades!!) I spotted the leopard cardigan and it just went perfectly with the skirt–same color family in the leopard and all. So I changed up and wore a dusty teal LandsEnd top instead!! I received a lot of compliments on the outfit!! The whole outfit is thrifted and cost about $15 total!!

Since the leopard was busy enough I went with simpler blingage in a vintage brooch and old gold hoops:

You may have noticed how “shaggy” my hair has been getting. I’ve been growing it out to its natural (silvery) color. Tomorrow I’m going to get it cut in my usual Jamie Lee Curtis pixie.  My hairdresser and I think that there will be little if any “dye” hair left!! YAY!!!!

Tonite my hunka-hunka burnin’ Aussie love Keith Urban will be performing on Idol!!!  He can play a mean guitar–aside from bringing the pretty!!

Everyone have a wonderful weekend and I’ll be back around Sunday!!!

Hello Blogland!!!! We wound up with a bit less than 7  freakin’ inches of snow yesterday. This is ridiculous!! The Diva won’t step off the porch and sully her dainty toes in the snow. MrBill LOVES it–just more to sniff and pee on!!

Spring (NOT!) in Western Maryland!!This is looking out from my front door.

I had the Diva select the winner of the Giveaway. She had problems with the prize not going to the obvious person-HER!!!! LOLOL  It was quite a production!!

She sniffed at the bowl. and then she decided to lick her chewie.

She sniffed at the bowl and then she decided to lick her chewie.

I had to resort to subterfuge to get her to pick a winner. I rubbed my finger on a bit of fried chicken skin that my husband was discarding and then rubbed the chicken stink on every entry paper!!! She sniffed it excitedly, picked one up, spit it out, gave me a dirty look (this is NOT chicken) and then knocked one out of the bowl!!

Next up are several 1940’s era cards. I adore the watercolor styling and the sweetness of the subjects.  The illustrations were so detailed.

And now on to the fashion portion of this blog post!! Yesterday was a snowy crapola day so I decided to break out some of the “new” stuff I thrifted this past week! The blouse wound up in the donation pile–it’s too big and I tried to “gather” the excess up in the back with the belt. It kept poofing up and making me crazy so away it goes! I’d been looking for a denim skirt without pockets and such that wasn’t “heavy”. This is perfect for $2!!!

i pulled out my “newest” $5 Nine West boots again today. These have been worn at least once a week since I thrifted them the beginning of the month!

Hello Blogland!!!! Hallelujah that today is my “Friday”!!! I plan on lots of creative fun and thrifting this weekend!! I’d love to be working in the gardens but it seems winter is still holding on tight here!!

Just a reminder about my Give-Away!!! You can leave a comment here to enter!   Just a quick clarification–you can have any image you want on the pendant if you win-plus choosing the bead & flower colors. The Diva was just an example–although she says she thinks EVERYONE would be THRILLED to wear such an iconic figure as herself for jewelry!!

Since I was having a skirt-a-thon last month I hadn’t been wearing my trousers. I pulled this pair out to wear and it’s now in the donation bag!! They were way to big and baggy and I decided not worth the trouble to alter!! I decided to try on all my dressy trousers and it seems I’m now down to jeans and a pair of black denim pinstriped trousers!!!  I’d like to thrift a couple of pair of trousers that FIT this weekend!!

Today I had planned on wearing a maxi skirt with sweater, leggings and boots. Klutzy me managed to dump my green smoothie on my skirt. After I pulled it off I kind of liked how the leggings looked with the sweater. I tucked then leggings (thankfully they aren’t the skin-tight kind but a thicker knit and a tad baggy!) This was totally out of my comfort zone!! Amazingly–I got TONS of compliments-even from the guys at work!! After looking at the pix I think the look works IF the top is long enough and the leggings/skinny pants are a bit looser. I plan on hunting for some at the thrifts to add to my “wardrobe”!!

Hello Blogland!! How is everyone today?? It’s finally SUNNY out but cold. Yesterday we had a surprise sleet/ice storm that hit just as we got off of work. It was absolutely miserable going home–took us about 2 1/2 hours to make a 35 minute drive. All of the idiots were out as usual thinking they can drive 90 mph in their honking big SUV’s!!

But for a cold crappy day my black cardigan came out to play. I really love this JJill skirt and it gets compliments whenever it’s worn. So swirly and fun!!

I’m off to make 12 red satin poncho’s for our church’s Hispanic Flag Team for their Easter program. This is a bit easier than what I made for them last year!!

St. Patrick's Day Greeting, Here's Lookin' at You

Hello Blogland!!! Happy St. Patrick’s Day to those who celebrate. I’m of Irish heritage but I really don’t celebrate.  Except as an excuse to wear GREEN!!!

Friday the hubster worked hard to spread some composted cow manure from his dad’s farm on the vegetable garden. When I took the dogs out later MrBill ran around back and stood and beheld the garden quivering with sheer joy!!  POO!!! Fresh, fragrant POO!!!!! How I wish I’d had my camera with me. He kept looking at the garden and sniffing the air. It was all I could do to keep him from rolling in it and eating it! The Diva was completely unimpressed.

MrBill's dreams coming true!!

Friday I wore my newest DIY skirt. One co-worker mentioned it look like a pair of curtains. LOLOL

Here’s the blingy. The earrings are part of a multi-pack I got off the clearance rack at Burlington Coat Factory for $3. I love that they are a milk glass and the unusual shape.

For St. Patrick’s Day I pulled out the green!! I hadn’t worn the dress in a bit as it had been a tad too small. I had to TAKE IT IN to wear it today!! I picked the sweater up at Kmart on the clearance rack marked down from $22 to $5!!

I’m linking up with Patti for Visible Monday! Check out all the fabulous ladies.  Everyone have a wonderful start of the week and I’ll be back on Tuesday with details of a GIVEAWAY!!!

Hello Blogland!!  Man I’m glad this week is almost over. Been busy busy busy at work and the weather has turned colder and rainy. UGH.

Along with my new office digs-speaking of which a co-worker came in and exclaimed it even SMELLED better in here. It’s amazing what Lysol, bleach and an air freshener will do!! Anyway–I “inherited” the former tenants unfinished projects.  Mostly because I volunteered to take them on. And wow what a mess….lolol!!! Unraveling what he did or didn’t do will keep me busy for a bit!

Wednesday’s outfit was inspired by the vintage scarf. The Brethren Mission Store in town always has the nicest vintage scarves for fifty cents each!!!

Skirt-JessicaLondon($50)/Thrifted, Cardigan-LauraAshley($60)/Thrifted, Tshirt-JonesNewYork($50)/Thrifted, Purse-Thrifted, Tights-Retail, Shoes-Retail.  I would have paid about $160 if  I had brought my skirt, cardigan and Tshirt retail. I paid $12 for all thrifted.

I got my shoes with a gift certificate at Kohl’s. They are Skechers On-The-Go Presta. FABULOUS!!! They are lighter than air and so, so comfortable. The picture doesn’t show the cool rainbow holographic glitter on the toe caps.  I’m thinking of getting another pair in either the coral or hot pink!!!

What’s rather interesting about vintage St. Patrick’s Day cards is how much “en vogue” they were at the turn of the 20th century. There are ton’s of examples out there from that era. They evidently became less prominent as the years progressed. Through my research I noticed that there were several recurring “themes”.

The always festive St. Patrick's Day Pickle Balloon circa 1900

Thankfully The KluKluxKlan Kard Kompany didn’t put out a St.Patrick’s Day line like the horrid Valentine’s ones.  That’s not to say I don’t have some weird and offensive ones to share with you!!! I’ll be sharing them on Sunday!!

Everyone have a wonderful weekend!! It’s supposed to be cold and dreary AGAIN here. Sigh…..

Hello Blogland!! How are you all doing?? It’s pouring rain here–we need it but oh my is it dreary out!!

With St. Patrick’s Day coming up this weekend I thought I’d share some vintage St. Pat’s cards this week!!

I hope you enjoyed the cards. I’ll be posting more Thursday!! It’s NCIS night so I’m off to do a bit of sewing before it comes on!

Hello Blogland!! I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend!! The weather is wonderful here!!! I’ve not been anywhere near the computer since Thursday nite. Got lot’s of sewing done and weeded a bit outside.

If anyone received a spammy looking email from me this weekend–my email was hacked. I’ve taken care of it and sorry if it annoyed you. Evidently I was emailing from Thailand…hmmmmm!!

The CD Launch Party was amazing!!! A wonderful crowd came out to support Pastora Ronette. We got to also here some sneak peeks from the NEXT album–it’s going to be fabulous!! Got loads of compliments on my cupcakes. Evidently I missed my calling-LOL!!

Pastora Ronette is beautiful inside and out. This album was born out of the last couple of years struggle for her and her husband, Curtis. They had been going through fertility treatments, and just at the time it looked like everything was falling in place, their lives were thrown into chaos.

Curtis had gastric by-pass surgery several years ago. He developed a blockage and almost dies–in fact–he technically did “die” and was medi-evaced via helicopter to a larger trauma center. While they were operating they found a tumor on his pancreas.

Curtis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (it is a miracle that they found it) and went through chemo and radiation over the past year. It was quite a shock to them. But through it all their faith grew and they were able to minister to so many other hurting people. And today Curtis is doing FABULOUS!!!

Pastora rocking it out!!!

Part of my sew-a-thon this weekend was making some skirts. I love being able to have something unique and colorful. Today’s skirt was definitely that. I had compliments on it everywhere I went. Do you all remember the 70’s TV show “The Partridge Family”???partridge_family_cast

My skirt fabric was definitely inspired by their logo!  In fact, the name of the fabric is “Get Happy!!” It certainly made me happy wearing it!partridge

Hello, world, here the song that we’re singin’ C’mon get happy! A whole lot of lovin’ is what we’ll be bringin’ We’ll make you happy!

We had a dream, we’d go travelin’ together, We’d spread a little lovin’ then we’d keep movin’ on. Somethin’ always happens whenever we’re together We get a happy feelin’ when we’re singing a song.

Trav’lin’ along there’s a song that we’re singin’ C’mon get happy! A Whole lot of lovin’ is what we’ll be bringin’ We’ll make you happy! We’ll make you happy! We’ll make you happy!
