Hiya Blogland!! Every got their polyester on??? We’ll be visiting the 70’s again today!!

The movie poster above is from the 1993 move “Dazed and Confused” which followed a group of teenagers on the last day of school in 1976.  The kids in this movie were the same age (junior becoming senior) as I was on that day so this brings back LOTS of memories!

First off- they NAILED the clothing, the sets, the music of that era dead-on. I understand that a great deal of the wardrobe was deadstock. I could relate to driving around with nothing to do. and of course-the pivotal field party was something I was VERY familiar with!

The cast was pretty much unknowns at the time-it feature a very young Matthew McCoughnahey and Ben Affleck.  I love this movie–if you were a teenager in the 70’s you will totally get it!! Here’s some more pix from the movie:

I’m going to share some images of the clothes we wore. I’m using catalogs from the era as most of us shopped for our stylish threads in such hip places as Sears, Wards, and Penneys-especially if you lived in Podunk Nowhere!!

Thursday I decided to join up with Spy Girl for the 52 Pick-me-up Challenge. This week its complementary colors. I chose a variation of one of my favorites-red and green. I tweaked it a bit and wore olive and burgundy. Pardon the flip-flops but I’ve been having some crappy muscle contractions in my feet the past couple of days and these didn’t hurt.

We plan on taking the girl’s for a walk on the towpath. MrBill can use that time to recuperate!! I’ve been making bandanas for them (matching ones no less-LOL)

Hello Blogland!!!  Is it a full moon or such because I have been dealing with the crazies this week. And been in computer hell both at home and at work!!

First–again my heartfelt thanks at all of your kind words regarding the Diva and her birthday this week. They really have comforted me so much!!

Wednesday night we had bad storms and lost our internet for a bit. Early Thursday morning I was trying to catch up on emails when my computer at work went nuts. Lost all network connections and essentially was dead in the water. We have to use a CAC (computer access card) to log on the system and it couldn’t access anything. Evidently several of us are on a circuit that went bad.  I usually read blogs etc. at lunch. At 2pm we were still down so I bailed out and went thrifting.

I hoped to catch up and make a post when I got home but MORE storms knocked the internet out again!! UGH!! So I’m going to be playing catch-up today!!

Leaving work a bit early allowed me to stop by the goodwill half-price outlet (it’s on the other side of Frederick so I only get there every few weeks. and I must say it was a VERY productive trip!! I paid $1.49 for each of these tops!  Please excuse the need for ironing!

I’m currently looking for Fall/Winter stuff in the thrifts. Several of these tops (all are knits) are for cooler weather. but for that price–they are a steal!!  I’m sure you’ve noticed I buy/wear a lot of blues and greens!! They are my favorite colors!!

This has been a good style/outfit week–considering the bombs from last week!! Here’s the deets:

The skirt above was found at Burlington coat Factory. I saw it on the rack and LOVED it–olive-green knit swirly maxi!! I found that it was ripped up at the waist band. Someone probably stepped on it while trying it on. I took it to the manager and asked if he would give me a discount. It was priced at $19.99. He gave me 75% off As-Is. SOLD. I took it home, removed the ripped part and reset the waistband. I now have an olive-green skirt I can wear year-round. I’m telling you it PAYS to be able to sew!!

I found the shoes at the same time. I was looking for a pair of pewter dressier sandals. Didn’t find any but found these metallic snake WhiteMountain wedges on the clearance rack for $9.99!! IN MY SIZE!! AND they are comfortable!!  In my cart they went, too.

Well, since I AM at work I need to get my butt in gear and do something constructive. Everyone have a wonderful weekend and I’ll be back on Sunday!!

The Diva Kae-Kae May 22, 2002-April 14, 2013

The Diva
Kae-Kae
May 22, 2002-April 14, 2013

Hello Blogland!! Everyone having a wonderful week thus far?? My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the tornado yesterday in Moore, Oklahoma. It’s just unimaginable.

This will be a photo-heavy post today without much “chatter”. I’m feeling really blue. Tomorrow would’ve been the Diva’s 11th birthday. You may recall we were planning a Super Fantastic Cyber E-Birthday Extravaganza as befitting the International Style Icon and Supermodel she was.

It was not to be. For those of you who are new to the blog, the Diva (aka Kae-Kae) became ill suddenly Sunday April 7th. She was diagnosed with congestive heart-failure. Her little heart was damaged from the 5+ years as a breeder in a puppy mill. The vet said they couldn’t “fix” her but we could manage it. She seemed to be responding to the medication but began having seizures early on the morning of April 14th. We had to love her enough to do what was best for her and let her go.

She is missed terribly. She was an 8 lb bundle of personality and attitude. Definitely the Alpha-dog in our house. It was ALL ABOUT HER!!!  I still catch myself looking for her.

I can never express how touched we are at the outpouring of love y’all have shown the last few weeks. It has meant the world to me and it’s made it easier knowing how many people her little bossy blonde self touched.

We buried her in the herb garden. I found this winged dog statue and of course I had to Diva-fy it. She loved her bling and outfits and attention.

I want to share some of my favorite photo’s of her. They really can’t catch the essence of her Diva-ness. She was quite the character and we can never replace her.

My favorite Diva picture. I love the smile on her face!! She knows the the loveliest flower in the garden!

Hello Blogland!! How are y’all doing?? We are having a wonderful spring weekend–up til now when it started to rain. We really need the rain, though! It certainly is a small world these days. I am the Zoning Administrator for our town (volunteer). I basically look over building permits and such and approve them before they go to the county and get them. This week I had one for a shed that I needed to make a site visit for. The lady looked very familiar to me. We got to chatting and lo and behold, she is a vet tech at the emergency vets we use. She thought I looked familiar, too. I mentioned we were there recently with the Diva. She remembered her!! She was in the back and took care of her both times!! She said she had to undress her for the x-rays on her first visit and the Diva was NOT pleased. She grumbled at her and gave her the stink-eye, sick as she was!! She wasn’t happy until she was dressed again!!  She told me all of the techs thought she was adorable and were so sad at her passing. She told me that last day you could see she was suffering and we did the right thing for her. It certainly helped me to hear this.

Did a bit of thrifting this weekend. I’m going on a self-imposed thrifting ban for the month of May. I certainly do not need anything and I’m going to do some decluttering for a yardsale later this spring!! I decided to stop by the Goodwill half-price outlet and the newer goodwill on the other side of Frederick. I don’t get to these but maybe once a month or so. The wait was WORTH it!!

Hello Blogland!! How is everyone doing this week??? I am totally itching to get out in the garden but it’s still a bit too early to plant stuff. I usually wait until the first weekend in May.

I was going through some pictures and found one I’d like to share. This is one of my favorite of the Diva. She was being a Chihuahua plant in the garden!! I love the expression on her face!

I couldn’t wait to wear the new twin-set I thrifted this weekend. I just love the print and although it may not show–there is a bit of embroidery accents on the cardigan. Since the print was so bold I decided to forgo all jewelry except a pair of vintage red earrings I DIY’d into pierced ones.  I can never go wrong with the JJill swishy swirly skirt!!

Hello all of you wonderful and fabulous folk out there in Blogland!!!!!!  I can’t express how much all of your love, kind words, and thoughts meant to us during this time.

I am doing ok.  I won’t lie and say  this is easy. I look for her and cry at times.  MrBill looks for her and is confused. We are lavishing him with love and attention. We plan to adopt another rescue later this year. We need time to grieve and such. I know the right dog is waiting for us .

I downloaded the pictures on my camera last night. I had taken some of Kae during her last week.  After looking at them–I can see that she was only existing but not living. The “spark” was gone from her eyes. This helps me know we did the right thing for her, as devastating as this has been.

I want to remember her as the vivacious, vibrant, bossy, prissy little Diva she was.  She really was the glitter in our lives and there will never be another quite like her. I am truly blessed I got to be her mom and allow her to fully realize the Diva that she was.

I took this outfit photo Friday morning before I went to work. I had carried Kae outside for her business and decided to take the OOTD picture when we came back in. Usually she wasn’t too interested in joining me for the daily picture–if it wasn’t all about HER she could care less.

Here’s a picture of the Diva in all of her glory. Remember her like this…..  I keep thinking of the Garth Brooks song “The Dance:

“Our lives are better left to chance, I could’ve missed the pain, but I’d of had to miss the Dance….”

Thank you KaeKae for the Dance. We will always love you!

I’m slowly catching up with everyone. I’ll be back on Thursday with an outfit post and such.

Again–you guys ROCK!!!  Thanks you again for everything. Y’all have truly made it easier for me.

Hello my fabulous friends!!!! It’s The Diva, aka International Style Icon!!!!  I asked (ok–commanded) Mom type a post for all of you, my adoring fans.

I am so very blessed and thankful for all of the love and concern you’ve shown me during my horrific tribulation. Your thoughts and prayers sustained me during my darkest hour.

I am feeling rather weak but so much improved.  We went to the vet’s today for a check-up and evaluation. I insisted Mom dress me in my new Princess dress. Even in my perilous condition I must keep up my appearance. The things we International Style Icons must endure.

Of course I charmed everyone there. I modestly basked in their adulation. I have added Pugsley the Pug, Joe the Chihuahua and Bandit the Cairn Terrier to my harem. I just can’t say no when they are throwing themselves at my dainty paws. What’s a girl to do??

The doctor said a bunch of medical stuff but truthfully I wasn’t paying any attention. I was distracted by the handsome vet tech who was petting me. I’ll let Mom fill you in on the boring details:

The woods don’t look so dark now.  Dr. Garcia is pleased with her progress. She responded to the medicine exceptionally well. He cut back the Elanapril and Pimodene to a very low dosage . (one of these helps her heart pump) He added a very low dosage of Laseck (sp) as a fluid preventative.  If she continues to do well on this regime it can buy us more time as there is room to increase the dosages if needed. She will still need to be monitored and kept from over-exertion. But tonite for the first time I think I will be able to sleep!!  Her ears have perked back up and her tail is wagging. And the DIVATUDE is off the charts!!!  Not that it diminished all that much.  To say Kae is high-maintenance is an understatement!!! But we wouldn’t want her any other way!!

Mom says we will be back to our regular blogging on Sunday. I SAY I need to be featured more on the blog. After all–she’s the Menopausel part and I am the SUPERMODEL!!!!

I send everyone wiggly kisses and licks!!!  Everyone have a spectacular weekend!! I am planning on making Mom take me for a ride around the neighborhood in my stroller.

Smooches-

The Diva
